Why get professional pictures taken of your children? Philadelphia Family Photography
Posted on December 10, 2009

I felt like including a “vintage” CDP picture….man I’ve gone through a ton of watermarks!!!
I saw this on Real Simple and thought it was worth sharing!
Get Professional Photos of Your Children
I’ve never forgotten an invaluable piece of advice that I heard from an older friend right after my first child was born. She told me, “One of my greatest regrets about my children’s childhoods was that I didn’t have more professional pictures taken.”“You didn’t take many pictures?” I asked.“I took tons of pictures,” she said, “but the fact is, professional photographs are so much better than even the best snapshots.”I absolutely agree—professional photos are better. And keeping her advice in mind, ever since my daughters were born, I’ve been zealous about getting their photos taken professionally at least once a year.
While it’s a lot of fun (and also a pain) to take pictures myself, it’s terrific to have some pictures that are truly excellent. These photos don’t take the place of the on-the-spot pictures that I take myself—I still take scads of photos at birthday parties, first days of school, on the slide, with a popsicle—but these pictures memorialize my children’s childhoods in a different way. Plus they make great family gifts. I can never figure out a good present for the grandparents and great-grandparents, but they always love to get a really great photograph—especially the relatives who don’t often get a chance to see the girls in person.
Also, research shows that one way to boost your happiness is to reflect on happy times, and looking at photographs helps keep memories more vivid. It’s a splurge, of course. Professional photos aren’t cheap. However, I figure that the money I spend on these photographs will strengthen family bonds, enhance happy memories, and capture the fleeting moments of childhood. They give me more pleasure than practically any other purchases that I make. That strikes me as pretty good happiness bang for the buck.
A friend’s family had another great photography tradition. For her whole life, at every milestone, her parents took a picture of her and her brother sitting exactly the same way on their front stoop. It’s fascinating to see them change through the years. Along the same lines, the artist Nicholas Nixon took a photograph of his wife and her three sisters once a year for 33 years. The collection of these photographs, The Brown Sisters, is riveting. Getting professional photos take is a great example of the tiresome fact that happiness takes thought and effort. These photographs are easy to arrange; in the scheme of things, not terribly expensive; contribute greatly to our family happiness—and yet it probably never would have occurred to me to do it if my friend hadn’t suggested it.

Hockey Hubby
Posted on June 17, 2008
JP is the biggest (Philadelphia) sports fan there is. He loves watching and playing almost all sports. Recently, he was asked to join a friend’s Rec league, so he ran out, got a stick, and jumped in the game. He hasn’t played in 10 years, so I was just impressed he didn’t puke! It was actually really fun to watch him play, and you know I couldn’t go without taking photos!!!
He’s on the left in the center here.

Client preview: the Bull family
Posted on June 17, 2008
Meet the Bull family! They are friends of friends, so now they’re my friends (hope they like that) haha!
They have this little sweetie named Colin is the man of the house (besides Bill) as he has two little siblings to look over, protect, and entertain. Corinne and Aaron are just the sweetest bundles of twin-ness. Their mommy and daddy are so patient, and cool as cucumbers, especially for having 3 young children.
I had so much fun at their beautiful home.
Enjoy your preview!!

Blast from the Piz-ay

While commenting on Just Thought I’d Share’s blog about Little House on the Prairie, I remembered how my sister watched it EVERY day during summer breaks. The mere sight and sound of the theme song/opening credits was enough to send me running, but since she’s older, she ususally won and got to watch it. I was commenting on the blog and had a major flashback to….DR QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN. Man I loved that show!!!!! I thought Michaela was beyond awesome, Sully was well…I thought he was totally cute with that long flowing hair hahahahaha, and I wanted to be the kids on the show (minus the mom dying of a snake bite). My neighbor Janelle introduced me to it and I was hooked. Do you think I can sneak it on the netflix list without JP noticing????

Congratulations Meghan!!!!

Last night, JP’s cousin Meghan graduated high school. We babysat Jess and Natalie (the little ones) during the ceremony. When they arrived to drop the kids off, Lori asked if I could snap some photos of the family since her camera batteries died. Of course I was happy to!
Here are a few of my favorites.

::Best viewed in full screen as images are larger than usual:) YAY::
On Saturday, we braved the 90+ degree weather to do a photo shoot with little Kate. Ericha tagged along (always fun to have another photog!) and met up with Tish and her daughter Kate (you remember Kate from here and here and here
) at Mercer Museum in Doylestown.
As she’s getting older, she’s starting to like getting her picture taken…and even got a bit sassy at times!!!!! She’s just insanely gorgeous and sweet!
Enjoy Tish, Matt and Aunt Barbara!

Rosi. Patrick. Teagan.
Posted on May 13, 2008
Rosi and Patrick are PHS’rs who were friends long before they dated.
Miss Teagan is their GORGEOUS two-year-old daughter.
Rosi and I became friends in 7th grade, and the fun hasn’t stopped since.
Rosi and Pat got married on April 20th in Jamaica!
We couldn’t be there, but we were able to go to their home reception.
Here are a few fun photos from the night.
Teagan gave an inpromptu speech that included: I love you, mommy. And a rendition of “Bringin’ Home my Baby BumbleBee”.
Uh oh…uncontrolled dancing to follow:
A little battle of the cake ensued…
Our table and Natalie and I….
Yes my husband looks like he needs to be committed. It’s very entertaining to him…so you might as well get used to it!
Congratulations Rosi and Patrick!!!!!!
