In celebration of Photographing Motherhood releasing this Thursday, we are offering a FREE copy through Good Reads!!!!! While you’re there, be sure to check out the reviews we have so far!
Motherhood is a journey, that’s for sure.
When you are expecting, you are entering the un-known- fielding advice from well-meaning friends, filtering tips from books, blogs, and facebook groups, and soaking in information from your doctor or midwife, all while trying to eat well, keep moving, and avoid foods/activities that could be harmful for your baby.
Weekends are filled with registry shopping, product research, and of course, nursery planning!
It’s busy and exciting and terrifying, all wrapped up in a soft and lovely muslin swaddle.
The day of delivery arrives and everything you have been pre-paring for is suddenly knocking down your front door.
Labor and delivery can be magical and dream-like, terrifying and life-threatening, or somewhere in between.
At the end of it all, you end up with a teeny, tiny, crazy little thing- your baby! Somehow, the doctors and nurses let you take them home without an instruction manual (AHHH!)!
Life starts to return to a new normal. You learn to function on little-to-no sleep. You learn to help furbabies and human kids acclimate to their new sibling.
You learn how to feed your little one, and get A LOT of practice, because they are just ALWAYS hungry!!
Life shifts. Priorities change. New stresses bloom. Amazing miracles take place. Simple actions make your heart explode with joy.
The days are long and the years are so very short.
This Mother’s Day and everyday, we hope you are able to sneak away each day even for 5 minutes to care for yourself, to reflect on your amazing accomplishments, and know that you are kicking ass!
Happy Mother’s Day!
Yesterday was pretty amazing! I was invited to speak on WFMZ’s morning show!!! Eve Russo and I chatted about the book—- AWESOME!!!!!
I was able to take my oldest daughter with me, and that was a really cool experience to share with her!
You can order the book here: Amazon
After June 1 it will be available in local book stores!

Here are some behind-the-scenes shots my step-mom got of the day!
As many of you know, I was a teacher before I was ever a photographer. Throughout my career, I am always had teaching AND photography- sometimes more photography than teaching, and at other times, the reverse was true. It is hard for me to choose which I love more, as they both allow me to work creatively with children and their parents! When I was writing my book proposal, I actually had trouble deciding weather to focus on children with special needs, or motherhood!
I worked on an article for NAPCP that I really love and I think is helpful for all photographers!
Check it out and let me know your thoughts!
One of my favorites (originally posted July 2015).
To the mom who is feeding her baby,
You decided how to feed your child long before they were ever born.
“I am going to breastfeed.”, you said. Or maybe you said, “Nursing is not for me, I will pump.” Maybe neither of those were an option for you. Maybe formula was your milk of choice, or maybe, just maybe, your doctor informed you that it will be necessary to use a tube to help your child thrive.
I see you. I see you feeding your child every single day.
I see you feeding your child on very happy days, and on very sad days (click below to read more).
