Hello everyone! Happy fall!
I hope you are doing well and enjoying the cooler temps and gorgeous hues all around- slowly but surely, the leaves are beginning to change.
As I enter into the busy season, I am excited, energetic, and content. I have made a huge decision and I want to tell you about it!
As many of you know, I started this business for fun, as a little side gig in 2007 while embarking on my full-time career as a special ed teacher. It was awesome and very quickly I met many amazing people and my business grew. I embraced it and followed the demand of clients. I took a little time off when I had Ava in 2009, and then cut back on my special ed teaching job, and increased my photography. I kept up a fast-pace until I had Genny in 2013, and continued that pace when she was 3 months old and I started at the studio.
It’s always been a challenge to balance family and work life, but we have figured out different ways that work for our family, including always keeping time for me to be home with the girls during the week- I am the one that greets them when they wake up, the one that drops them off at school or the sitter when applicable, plays with them, has lunch with them, and settles them before their naps. I am also the one who gets to greet them at the end of their school day. That is a magical thing to me.
I am so very grateful that I have been able to adapt my schedule to meet my family’s needs. It’s been amazing to be at The Photo Loft for the last two years. I have been able to hold events, create sessions, and connect with clients on a level I never dreamed would be possible.
Yes, it’s tough to not be with my family on the weekends, but they are with my husband and they are in good hands, so it’s been okay.
Fast-forward to fall of 2015, now. My big girl is in first grade.
Full-time school for the first time ever.
For some, I know you’re thinking um big deal, my kids have always been in full-time school- I know it sounds silly, and I respect that, but for me…. it’s a big deal.
It’s a new chapter. I’m now home most mornings with my toddler, and then often running to the studio to meet clients just as I am setting dinner on the table. I give my husband a quick kiss, and run out the door, as he was running in from a long day at work.
Now, I get home with Ava at 4pm. I have just two precious hours to talk, connect, make dinner, help with homework, and then I am running out the door and do not get home until after the girls are in bed. On weekends, I am doing sessions for the greater part of each day. I am very grateful for those sessions and those clients, but as my family’s schedule has changed drastically, it’s time for me to also adapt my schedule.
November 30 will be my last day at The Photo Loft. My studio mates have been such a big part of my life and I count my blessings all the time for them, for the laugh and knowledge shared over the past two years.
I will be changing my package offerings, to reflect this new change. We won’t be meeting in person to go over the galleries. I will miss that part a lot- it has been incredible to sit and listen to the comments, and offer tissues for tears flowing from mom, dad and even grandpa! I am going to structure the packages based on the most popular purchasing patterns that clients have show over the past two years here, to be sure you continue to have prints and albums, and so that you also have the option to have those lovely digital images you all crave so much!
Sessions will be held in your home or out in the community. Photography lessons will be held in local coffee shops.
We will be promoting ourselves as a “lifestyle” photographer, and educating clients so that they truly understand what we do and how we photograph- so that if they want very posed sessions filled with adorable props, they can find a photographer that is a better match for them. 99% of our clients come to us because they love our style and do not want to use props and strict themes, so this will not be a big transition thankfully.
My availability will change a bit, and at this point I am not quiet sure how that will look, but we have a few months to sort that out.
New availability will be announced after January 1, 2016.
Thank you to everyone who has ever booked us, thank you to everyone who comes back year-after-year. We do not take that lightly, and you truly mean the world to us! To all those we have told who encouraged and supported us without wavering, thank you! The response so far has been beautiful and we really do thank you!
We look forward to continuing to serve you and your family in 2016!
With the utmost respect and warm wishes,
