Hey mom, you, mama, oh wait, you have a real name, too, hey (insert first name here)!
It’s me, Caitlin, also known as mom, mama, mommy.
I have always made it my goal to get mamas in front of the camera at my photo sessions. Some resist, some reluctantly join in, and others have been conditioned and arrive camera-ready to our sessions now!
Are you still hiding from the camera?
Did you read this viral article by Allison Tate: The Mom Stays in the Picture?
How about the one by Teresa Porter? So you’re feeling too fat to be photographed…
If those don’t motivate you, there is still hope. I can help you. I can plan with you, so you are comfortable. We can choose your wardrobe so it is flattering and comfortable. I can arrange for hair and make-up so you can head to your session feeling pampered. I can hold your hand during the entire process- I can even show you your images as they are taken to be sure you can relax, and see yourself how we see you:
and the list goes on.
You may say, hey, you don’t know me, you don’t know if I am truly any of these qualities. I can assure you though, your children, your husband, and your parents would all agree, you are all of these things and so much more.
Love is more than frizzy hair.
Motherhood is more than a “mummy tummy”.
It’s so much more than a few extra pounds, a wrinkle or two, a gray hair (or 20), blemishes, age spots, stretch marks, and laugh lines.
It’s 2015. It’s time to embrace this life and the one body we have been given.
To me, laugh lines and wrinkles tell a tale of a lifetime of smiles and laughter.
Stretch marks and a belly indicate that you were at one time (or a few times) the place your growing baby had to live, the only heart beat they felt and heard, the one person responsible for nurturing and growing your baby.
If you come in and hair has a few sparkles (lovingly borrowed from my friend Deb – what she calls grey hairs) in it, I just know that you were a little too busy living life to go crazy by achieving perfection that day.
Sun spots tell me that you live in a world where you can bask and play in the sunshine with your family.
But Caitlin, I didn’t look this way, you say.
But Caitlin, I still have 19 pounds to lose, you say.
But, but, but.
I hear you.
I understand, and I am going to help you past this obstacle in your life, so that you leave my session with photos that depict beautiful you, and the bond you have created with you family. You will have photos to hang on your wall that remind you why you have had so many late nights, so many worries, so many self-doubts, and more importantly, they will remind you that you are rocking the hell out of motherhood!
