My big girl started Creative Dance last week. No more Mommy and Me ballet, this is the big leagues now. She is just shy of 3 (April 14) but the studio let her join the 3-4 year olds as she is potty-trained and can follow directions (get ’em girl!). We took a trial class last week and though I was excited, I was actually pretty nervous. What if she hated it? What if she cried when I had to drop her off at the door? What if I cried when I dropped her at the door (kidding, kinda)? Would she follow directions? Would she suck her fingers the whole time and complain that she’s HOT (her go-to complaint when she wants to escape a task or situation—time to clean your toys, Ava. But mama, I’m hottttttttttttt!)?
Though I almost died last week when there was no way for me to see her ~ the blinds on the observation window were closed!~ it was pretty easy to hear that things were going well.
“Good job, Ava!!!!!” I heard her dance teacher praise and encourage her and then I heard her wild belly laugh echoing through the halls and knew, it was all good.
We picked up a crisp white leotard this week and signed her up as an official dancer. Sigh. Where does time go?
Ava was completely pumped this week as we got ready for dance. We took some pictures (because, hello?) and then hopped in the car. She asked me 10x if we were at ballet yet, before we got to the end of our road. As we turned onto route 309, she took a long exhale and mumbled that ballet was just too far away.
Secretly, it’s only 5 minutes away and we arrived quickly. We raced into the big girl studio (filled with natural light) and grabbed some photos to commemorate this huge milestone in her life, and then headed down to her studio. It was parent observation week this week so I was allowed to witness Ava dancing in all her glory. She held it together until the end when she ran over to give me hugs every 45 seconds and then, as she stood on the line, hands on her hips, whispered, “I’m HOT”. “I’m hungry!”. “I.Am.Sleepy!” Whoops~it’s hard to be two!
In those last five minutes I became very grateful that the mamas are not allowed in the studio during class….but I will always look forward to parent observation week!!! 🙂
