I loved this girl from the start, because hello? We share the same name! I knew I loved her even more when I got into her nursery and saw that she has the very same bedding as my daughter (the cutest birds ever from PBK!)!

As I pulled up to her home last Sunday, I had my eyes glued to the sky—it was light black, and rapidly turning to black-black. AH!

You may be confused at this point- yes I do most newborn sessions indoors, but I do rely pretty heavily on natural light. I have some lighting equipment but I almost never bring them to shoots, unless I know I will not have light. Oh goodness.

Thankfully, baby girl’s nursery was well-lit and we were able to use the pockets of passing light.

Her big sister, Chloe (dog), kept watch and snuck in some sweet modeling poses when she saw the opportunity.

Though I always prefer to have clear/sunny skies, I cannot say I didn’t LOVE snuggling a precious new baby on such a gloom stormy day!

This session was completely last minute- we had plans to meet up with friends of ours while we were both vacationing at the Jersey Shore.  I received a text the day before asking if I wanted to do a session for them while I was at their beach house. We had been trying to get a date on the calendar for months, so this was perfect!!

Despite the wind, we had the perfect evening for it~ golden sun, warm waves, a (mostly) empty beach! I cannot believe their daughter is old enough to go to kindergarten….it seems like just yesterday I was at their house welcoming baby Teagan into the world!

This session was pretty crazy to make happen. Steph emailed me to ask if I ever do sessions at the Jersey Shore. I told her that actually yes, I would be there in August, if she would like to book during my vacation week. She booked, sent her contract, and I was shocked when I noticed they lived by me, not at the shore:)

Our session day was rapidly approaching as the weather forecast started looking angrier and angrier. After a few chats and a call to their hotel, we agreed to reschedule for my last night at the beach.  Friday approached and a similar forecast threatened us!  We decided to go for it, and said we would meet at the boardwalk at six. Six came and went and it was pouring!!!!!

I was not feeling too optimistic as the clock approached 6:40pm, so I checked in with  Steph who was hunkered down with the family in their car.  Well! According to her weather modules (did I forget to mention she is a meteorologist!?), we were heading for a break in the rain!!  The rain stopped and we were able to have the most beautiful session seaside!!! YAHOO!!!!!

So these aren’t exactly teasers, these are all of my daughter and my nieces. Originally, when I first read about Ava’s Tea Party, I planned to do this just with Lily and Ava. As is customary with me, things got out of hand, and next thing we knew we had a super huge day of mini sessions planned!

Ava’s Tea Party 2011

On Saturday, July 23, we hosted an amazing day-long mini session~ in memory of a beautiful little girl named Ava. Her parents started a website called Ava’s Tea Party which asks that people hold a tea party in the summer to celebrate life- to celebrate all things beautiful and lovely, and to experience those sweet rights of passage that Ava was not able to experience.

 

Our charity of choice was Mommy’s Light Lives on Fund.  Mommy’s Light is an amazing organization that helps bereaved children up to age 18 celebrate the special traditions they once experienced with their mothers.  Mommy’s Light is near and dear to my heart, as my sister and I have volunteered with them since 2003 when we lost our own mom to cancer.

Ava’s Tea Party was held on a super hot (~100 degrees!) day in Ambler, and was made possible by several amazing sponsors and volunteers.

We would have been lost with out MamaCheaps support, Libby, Jen, Melissa, Julie, and Meg’s volunteering day of, and details they added to the decor and day.
