Seriously Cool Stuff Saturday

The curse of the peony. Growing up, my mom had tons of peonies growing along the driveway and along the side of the house. The had been there during her childhood as well but I am not sure if my grandmother planted them, or if the previous homeowners did. Anyway, each June, peonies would bloom in brilliant pinks and white. Our house would be filled with vases and the sweet smell of peonies was everywhere. We took them to our teacher’s and bus drivers with the stems wrapped in wet paper towels and foil every year.

Fast forward to 2004. We planted a big memorial garden for my mom and the #1 plant that needed to be in there was peonies.

Skip along to 2007. My wedding bouquet was supposed to be HOT PINK HUGE PEONIES with orange roses! It arrived and well, I don’t know what they were, possibly a different “breed” but they were certainly not huge nor did they smell like my childhood. Fail.

We bought our first house in 2007 also, and planted a peony plant in our garden. It never  got any buds. The next year, it never even came back up! Last year, we decided to skip the peony, but planned to take some from my sister’s house (our childhood home) so I could have those awesome hearty peonies. Life with a young baby happened, fall came and went, and we forgot.

This year for Mother’s Day, JP asked what I would like. I had a hard time thinking of things and he suggested a peony plant. I was skeptical and nervous because by now I know I am cursed (ha!). So we took the plunge and Ava and him got me a beautiful plant with one bud.

I carefully planted it in the garden and waited…….and LOOK!!!!

If I only get one bloom this year I will be so happy with that!!

This session started out very unlike any other I have ever done. I was on my way to meet the R’s when B called and told me her husband was stuck in city traffic. She asked if we could delay by a half hour or so. I was happy to oblige, but was concerned about the lighting (it was an evening session), so I asked her to look up the projected time for sundown.  We decided that we’d really be pushing it, so I swung over to her place of work and picked her up! We both joked about how we were crazy for riding with/picking up a “stranger”, though she clearly knew who I was, and I had paperwork and payment stating who she was:):):)!

It worked out perfectly. We took a ton of shots before R showed up and then had him jump right in when he arrived. PERFECT!

Thanks for driving in 2-hours worth of awful city traffic, R! Thanks for trusting me to escort you to your session, B!  See you this summer to meet your new little sweetie!!!!!!

You have seen this family before, and you certainly saw dad in the fall at our big fundraiser for the ACS breast cancer walk, he is Eric of Mittman Rehling ~ the most professional, knowledgeable, and caring realtors I have ever met (and worked with)!  The last shoot I did with this beautiful family did not include Baby A, because she wasn’t born yet!  Now, here she is, 15-months-old, and giving three-year-old S a run for her money!  I cannot believe S has matured into such a sweet and beautiful young lady!  And Baby A, absolutely sweet.  They both have the same trademark cheeks, it was all I could do to not pinch them!

Okay, enough talking, enjoy your preview!

Everybody else, make sure you contact Eric and Matt when you are ready to buy or sell a home!  We used them years ago and look forward to using them again with our next purchase!

You saw their teeny sneak peek last week, now prepare yourself. This session was H-O-T. We were sweating, but you would never know~ look how sweet this family is. Mom is Meredith of Elegant Engagements~ she is an award-winning wedding coordinator!  Check out her website and contact her if you are planning an upcoming wedding!

Okay, back to the family. G is 18 months old and stayed true to the age (this was my third 18 month old in a row!)—-busy, busy, busy! These kids have an agenda of their own, and I love that. It helps drive the session and really gives a true sense of how life with a little guy is at this age.

Meredith looked gorgeous and wasn’t ruffled at all by the high humidity.  I’m pretty sure she needs to look into modeling- look at those eyes!

I hope your delivery is just as wonderful as G’s was, and I can’t wait to meet baby girl in a few weeks!

The S family are not only repeat clients, but they are the winners of my Hearts for Haiti contest that Ericha Farrington and I ran a few months ago. It was originally set for March, but we decided to push it to May to hopefully get better weather (than SNOW)!  I’m so glad we did because even though it was 90 degrees and HUMID, we had sun and blue skies!!  Little F has grown so much since our fall session last year in Doylestown.  He has definitely developed a mind of his own, and he made us work! We rewarded him at the end with a nice lollypop:)

This is what I posted as their tiny sneak peek:

The T’s and I had the pleasure of meeting during Fall Mini Sessions last year as we celebrated G’s first birthday.  Little did we know, M was pregnant (just barely) at the time, so I was lucky enough to not only do another family session, but to do M’s maternity pictures last weekend!  Mom is absolutely GLOWING as she expects a sweet baby girl, but you will have to wait to see those until next week. For now….

Does it get much cuter than this?
