Baby E, oh Baby E. She is spunky already—-and a completely gorgeous little thing! She’s just like my daughter- she doesn’t miss a thing, even as a newborn! She was not interested in sleeping, though she did let us put a cute bow on her for mom’s Christmas-themed birth announcement idea! And then she pooped. All over everything.
But that’s what newborns do, so it was totally okay.
Other than that I got to snuggle her up a little, and capture her interacting with her brand-new family, including their dog, Nuke!
Enjoy that precious little darling and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

This ornament was given to me last year while I was pregnant. It says, “Tis a gift to be a mom”.

And…who can resist a wiener dog doing “Beggin’ Dog”? I know I can’t!

This week’s SCSS: A gorgeous newborn photo prop!
Newborn sessions are my most favorite type of sessions. The babies are so new, so fresh, perfect in every way. Mom and dad are in a sleep-deprived love haze. They’re already wrapped tightly around their new child’s finger, even though they are so filled with exhaustion they sometimes fall asleep during the session (two dads in counting…!).
When they arrived, I noticed right away how soft the material is. I have two- plum and cranberry. The cocoons retail for $15.00-$17.50 on her website and fit babies up to 21 inches long. Her website currently offers seven different colors. Custom Photo Props also makes amazingly colorful hammocks, blankets and pom pom rugs- adorable!
Kerri has graciously offered ONE Second Skin Cocoon for one lucky reader….head on over to www.mamacheaps.com TOMORROW to find out more details!

Why get professional pictures taken of your children? Philadelphia Family Photography
Posted on December 10, 2009

I felt like including a “vintage” CDP picture….man I’ve gone through a ton of watermarks!!!
I saw this on Real Simple and thought it was worth sharing!
Get Professional Photos of Your Children
I’ve never forgotten an invaluable piece of advice that I heard from an older friend right after my first child was born. She told me, “One of my greatest regrets about my children’s childhoods was that I didn’t have more professional pictures taken.”“You didn’t take many pictures?” I asked.“I took tons of pictures,” she said, “but the fact is, professional photographs are so much better than even the best snapshots.”I absolutely agree—professional photos are better. And keeping her advice in mind, ever since my daughters were born, I’ve been zealous about getting their photos taken professionally at least once a year.
While it’s a lot of fun (and also a pain) to take pictures myself, it’s terrific to have some pictures that are truly excellent. These photos don’t take the place of the on-the-spot pictures that I take myself—I still take scads of photos at birthday parties, first days of school, on the slide, with a popsicle—but these pictures memorialize my children’s childhoods in a different way. Plus they make great family gifts. I can never figure out a good present for the grandparents and great-grandparents, but they always love to get a really great photograph—especially the relatives who don’t often get a chance to see the girls in person.
Also, research shows that one way to boost your happiness is to reflect on happy times, and looking at photographs helps keep memories more vivid. It’s a splurge, of course. Professional photos aren’t cheap. However, I figure that the money I spend on these photographs will strengthen family bonds, enhance happy memories, and capture the fleeting moments of childhood. They give me more pleasure than practically any other purchases that I make. That strikes me as pretty good happiness bang for the buck.
A friend’s family had another great photography tradition. For her whole life, at every milestone, her parents took a picture of her and her brother sitting exactly the same way on their front stoop. It’s fascinating to see them change through the years. Along the same lines, the artist Nicholas Nixon took a photograph of his wife and her three sisters once a year for 33 years. The collection of these photographs, The Brown Sisters, is riveting. Getting professional photos take is a great example of the tiresome fact that happiness takes thought and effort. These photographs are easy to arrange; in the scheme of things, not terribly expensive; contribute greatly to our family happiness—and yet it probably never would have occurred to me to do it if my friend hadn’t suggested it.

I cannot believe little B is almost six months old! I first met B when he was just 10 days old! He’s changed so much- and weighs much more these days—more than Ava:) He’s perfect in every way- long and lean, great hair, and beautiful eyes, just like his mama. It was so nice to catch up with you guys and to drool over B….he’s insanely handsome!
Enjoy:)

Yesterday, we got and decorated our Christmas tree (Ava’s first!) and Ava got to experience her first snowfall. It was in all senses of the word magical!

This week’s SCSS: DO something with your photos!
Print them!

Frame them!

Make them huge!

Try printing on canvas!

Sit back and admire them! I could not be more happy with these new displays in our house. As you can see, Ava approves. I ask her, “Where’s the baby?” She turns to them and screeches! Sometimes she yells “AVA” at them, other times “BABY!” It’s insanely cute!

Meet the O’s- little C is only three months old but man is he already a charmer! He has these huge dimples that appear whenever mom and dad make him giggle. We shot at the coolest location- a friend’s center city apartment. The lighting at the O’s house was questionable and C is a bit too young for a full outdoor session, so they asked their longtime friend if we could “borrow” his space and he said yes! With a beautiful view, this apartment had gorgeous floor to ceiling windows, perfect for a photography session.
Congratulations again on your beautiful son!
Enjoy!

I am so happy to bring this preview to the interwebs!!! For some reason each year I have two or three families that are victims to rain or illness- repeatedly on our session day. This was our third reschedule and oh it was worth the wait. We met on a brisk fall day and had beautiful lighting.
Thank you C’s, for being SO patient, and for being so beautiful and in love with each other, you make my “job” very insanely easy. It’s sessions like these that remind me why I do what I do- to help YOU Capture the Art of Daily Living.
Enjoy!

And lastly, some behind the scenes;)

I have been in some major G family withdrawal lately. T was my first paying client way back when and they have been such wonderful clients and friends ever since. Little K is growing up so fast, it’s really hard to comprehend sometimes. In just one short month she will already be four years old! She is a precious little girl who appears quiet and shy at first and then, watch out! It takes one split second for her to turn into a complete giggle monster!
Thank you G’s …. for everything throughout the years I’d be lost without you!
