The beautiful C family!!!!

Posted on January 28, 2009

On Sunday I met D, G, and baby J at their house. J is six months old and is just deliciously beautiful. She has big, beautiful eyes, squooshy cheeks, and a rockin’ monster voice that she likes to bring out for giggles. D and G~ thank you for the wonderful time, the conversation (that could have gone on for days) and laughs, and for the AMAZING donut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am dreaming of them:)

I know you probably noticed that amazing ring right away- it was D’s grandmother’s ring and it was given to her last year when her grandmom passed away. She and G named their daughter after J’s great grandmother…what a special tribute. J is a lucky little chick.

I am looking forward to our session this summer!!

Impromptu Session

Posted on January 28, 2009

Two weeks ago I spent the day playing and gossiping with my friend Sandy of Moments Caught Photography. I posted a picture I took of her last week. Yesterday, on her blog, she posted some photos she took of me!

Note~ I do not travel with tube tops- she started digging in her prop closet after she decided she needed to take some pictures of my belly. hehe!!!!

Thank you Sandy, I know you said to thank my parents, but I think you totally ran some “prettyizer” action over these:)

Fun with photographer friends

Posted on January 21, 2009

The best thing about networking is the friendships that come out of it! On Saturday I spent the day with my friend Sandy of Moments Caught Photography. We gabbed for a long time, played with cameras, flashes, and had two impromptu photo shoots.

The most random part of the day was when the doorbell rang while we were eating lunch. Who was it but Glen Hurricane Schwartz!?

He and his wife were house hunting in the neighborhood and wanted to ask a resident some questions. How silly and random! I giggled about it for the rest of the day. Sandy handled it much better than I did.

I’m attaching my favorite picture of Sandy from my lighting practice. This one was shot with natural light from a glass door. Ummmmm isn’t she stunningly beautiful!?

Thanks for the fun day, Sandy! Look for more about her when she does our newborn session in April! I cannot wait!!

Sad Update

Posted on January 21, 2009

Some of you will remember a collection I took up about a year ago for a local little boy from one of the schools I teach at. His name was Curtis Anthony and he had Batten’s Disease.

I just read on his facebook group that he died yesterday. I am so saddened by this news…My prayers are with him and his family.

You can read more about his story and see where I got the first picture here.

Rest in Peace- Andrew Wyeth

Posted on January 16, 2009

I just heard on the news that Andrew Wyeth died today or yesterday at the age of 91.

He’s an iconic artist (local to us!) who’s style is recognizable anywhere.

So many of my friends and family have this print, I just love it:

The Best Times of the Day – For the Most Natural Photographs

The art of photography is just like any other creative discipline – it requires a great deal of skill and an eye for detail if you want to come up with distinctive pictures that stand out in a crowd. There are times though, when photography is more difficult than other forms of art, because of the fact that it relies on the quirks of nature to be able to produce good photos. And we all know that nature can vacillate between being a sadistic mistress and a loving wife.

So when you absolutely must shoot outdoors, you’re likely to find yourself with extremely poor light or be confronted by a dark and overcast day and rue the fact that you have to contend with the fickleness of nature. But then, on the other side of the coin, nature also provides you with the most dazzling displays of color and lighting, so much so that ordinary shots come out looking extraordinary when they’re exposed and developed. In order to get the best out of natural light photographs, you need to know when to shoot and what kind of pictures to shoot. It’s the timing and positioning that matters more than anything else, so here’s how you can make the best of the lighting that nature has to offer:

When it’s dull and overcast::
This is the perfect time for portraits because your subjects don’t have to squint in the harsh sunlight or be exposed to shadows under their eyes. Photos that demand focus on the subject are best shot in dull light without the distracting glare from the sun.

When there’s a slight drizzle and the streets are wet:
The skies have a clear look, like they’ve been washed and laundered, and the streets glisten with moisture. This makes rainy days the perfect setting for shots that require reflections.

When the sun is hot and bright:
Make sure the sun is behind you to avoid sunspots on your pictures, and if you must shoot into the sun, use the right filters. Direct sunlight makes strong colors look even stronger while weak or diffused light makes details sharper and flattens form.

When the shadows fall at sunrise and sunset:
It’s important to remember that sunrise and sunset are times when the light and the colors of the sun change most rapidly. So you must be prepared to shoot quickly before the tones and colors change.

When it’s late in the day and the sun throws slanting rays:
The lighting at this time is best when you want to enhance and emphasize texture. Late afternoons also work well when you’re trying to create a romantic setting.

When it’s dark and artificial lights are on:
Dark nights with bright lights allow you to shoot pictures with a larger area of exposure.

When the climate is stormy, misty or cold:
These are times when the sky keeps changing in color and when shadows alter with amazing alacrity. The light continues to shift strongly as the sun moves across the sky, and this makes these conditions not so ideal for contiguous shots. If you’re looking for variety however, this could be the perfect setting.

When it’s calm without any wind:
These days work well when you’re trying to capture reflections and shoot on water.

When you’re indoors during the day:
These situations are suitable when your subjects are able to pose for you. Open all windows for added brightness and make sure that the faces of the people in the picture are not shadowed because of uneven lighting.

A Wiener and ‘Dillo – Philadelphia Family Photographer Caitlin Domanico

Posted on January 11, 2009

When visiting my dad and Sherri in Texas this fall, I became quite smitten with armadillos, though I was never able to find a real one. For Christmas, they gave me a stuffed ‘dillo!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to make a greeting to send to them during the snowfall yesterday. Stretch was supposed to pose with him, but he had other ideas!

Trash the Dress Pix- Philadephia Engagement Photographer Caitlin Domanico

Posted on January 10, 2009

Remember way back in May when I won that contest to be IN a photoshoot in center city?
I just got the last CD from John Arcara. He and Kamila took the most of me, so I was waiting excitedly to receive this one. The CD arrived yesterday and did not disappoint! Out of 400+ photos of me, these are my favorites!

My hair is so dark in these and my belly is….well….not 27 weeks pregnant!!! :)

What do you think? PS- I did a photoshoot a week or two prior and totally got a farmer tan from it:)

This first one is goofy but it’s my favorite. It’s very “me”.

My typical cheese smile…it’s very hard for me to be serious and model-y!
