You know what they say,

When it rains, it pours.

Recently, my husband was laid off from his job of only 3 months (thanks economy and thanks to his soon to be ex company who came after him hard in the spring). We took it in stride and he’s been hitting the job search pretty hard. Easy right? Well, sure.

So yesterday, we take a little nap after work, before getting ready to go to my sister‘s house (who is still overdue with the baby) to see my brother (visiting for the weekend from college) and my dad (in town from Texas). We awake to the phone ringing. Is Devon in labor? No. Is it a perspective job with an offer? No. JP forgot about a doctor’s appointment. Whoops. I walk into the kitchen for some water and did I ever get water. There was a hole in the ceiling. If you’ll kindly remember we just had a hole in the ceiling in the spring. Great, so there’s a leak. We call my brother in law who’s stuck in turnpike traffic and who just wants to go home and relax with my sister. He comes over (because he’s awesome), they determine that the leak is the washer. Great.

My brother calls Bob while he’s helping JP- he’s stranded on 202 in Bucks County somewhere. His car no longer wants to work. Sooooo Bob finishes up, and drives toward Brett. It’s not the battery as they hoped, it’s the alternator. Great. So they say goodnight to the car and head to my sisters. JP drives to Lowes and drops a good amount on a washer/dryer, accessories, etc. We all meet up in the pouring rain for take out. Dad arrives an hour after the food arrives. We get a call that JP’s little sister is in the emergency room with sharp pains.

We enjoy each other, get heated by talking politics, and then I say, “I feel like my heart is jumping out of my chest”. Devon says, “you’re stressed”.

So, we leave. JP works until 1am on the doorjam because Lowes told him that if he didn’t get it off then they would not take the washer out (we have a washer/dryer combo in the bathroom). He finally calls it quits when he just couldn’t try any longer and we go to sleep. I woke up all night with a deep pressure feeling on my chest. I could breathe, but had this pressure that almost made me nauseous. JP kept waking up to see if I was okay, and we decided it must be all the stress of the last few weeks catching up to me. We finally fall asleep and the phone rings. It’s 5:30…and it’s Devon-she’s getting ready to call the doctor because her water broke.

I sleep on and off for the next few hours waiting for her to call and let me know when to leave the house. She goes in for monitoring, and they’re told to walk. She’s having some contractions but nothing consistent.

We find out that JP’s little sister is home at his mom’s and is okay. JP goes back to the door jam and neighbor Mike comes over to help. Finally the two of them get the door apart.

Then the Lowes men arrive. They begin to argue with JP that there’s no way the washer and dryer will come out without them taking out the toilet? JP finally convinces him that it can and has been done. Two men go up to the bathroom to work on getting it out, and one man stares in our front door window despite several invitations to come in.

The men get the washer out and down the stairs, and then they stop. Window starer comes in, and the three of them start screaming at each other in Greek (Brett’s guess) or Russian (my guess). We all just froze and waited for it to be over.

Now, at 12:41 on Saturday, we have a new washer and dryer in place. Devon was sent home, it wasn’t her water just yet, though they think she’s ready very soon. Dad went to Peddler’s Village this morning, got Brett’s car towed and is probably at some garage hoping it will be fixed today. JP and Mike went to Home Depot for supplies. Brett is playing JP’s electric guitar (Badly Drawn Boy), Stretch his huddled against my thigh, and I can’t decide if I should shower or just go back to bed….after I finish monitoring the hole in the ceiling for more leakage (test run in the washer).

Good news is…we’re going to my favorite restaurant for dinner tonight.

Things can only go up from here, right? :)

Happy Saturday!

I blogged about my experience in July when I went with my sister to see my little niece. This place is so family friendly and the owner, Tom is just nice as pie.

If you are in the region and are expecting a baby I highly recommend checking out their website. http://babysfirstpeek.com/

The S Family….get ready

Posted on September 5, 2008

I say get ready as in, get ready to have your hearts melted. Families don’t come much cuter than this one. These two little boys were SO sweet, so well behaved, polite, funny and downright adorable.

Check these out!

VOTE!

Posted on September 5, 2008

It’s that time again, juried art show time! I know two of these that I will def. be entering. But there are a few shows and you can enter up to 3 in each.

Generally it’s advised to stay away from “cute things”, though last year I won a prize for my baby feet in mommy’s hand picture (momento dolce).

Which photo should I enter into an upcoming juried art show?

thanks for your vote!
